About The Chef – “Good food makes people happy”
Chef Stefan was born in Jakarta in 1986 and was raised in Jakarta and Abu Dhabi. His first interest in culinary emerged when he was little. “I remember coming home from school and my mom was waiting for me with her warm home-cooked meal. Then I realized that people could be so happy just by eating good food”, the Chef explained.
And so, Chef Stefan’s culinary milestones started in 2006 when he graduated from Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France. As an apprentice in Daniel & Denise, a traditional restaurant in Lyon, Chef Stefan first learned that cooking is all about natural taste, wisdom of using the ingredients, and respect.
His next leap was as a Commis a 2-Michelin star institution of 50 years called Restaurant Senderens in Paris, where he learned the importance of teamwork and association. And his journey went on to the Eiffel Tower where he joined two restaurants owned by Alain Ducasse, Le 58 and Le Jules Vernes before finally ending his chapter in France after he joined the Europe’s first opening of Shangri- La with his superior.
Chef Stefan’s next rodeo was in Melbourne, Australia, which he described as ‘breathing fresh air’ after spending much time in an elitist ‘fine-dining’ environment before. After 8 years in Melbourne, Chef Stefan finally decided to come to Bali in 2018 as he was offered to do an opening of beach house of a certain F&B group. Now, after spending 5 years in Bali with new discoveries of spices, flavours, and methods, Chef Stefan finally decided to start doing what he loves in his own unique way with TERÉ Seminyak: Making people happy through serving good food.
