CELEBRATION OF SILENCE, NYEPI 2023, 1945 SAKA YEAR, AT MOVENPICK RESORT & SPA JIMBARAN BALI.

“Nyepi” comes from the word quiet, or silent. Nyepi Day is actually a Hindu New Year celebration based on the śaka calendar. The śaka New Year in Bali begins with solitude – no activity as usual. All activities were abolished, including public services, such as the International Airport was closed, but not for hospitals.

The main purpose of Nyepi Day is to pray before God Almighty, to purify Bhuana Alit (human nature / microcosmos) and Bhuana Agung / macrocosmos (universe). Before Nyepi Day, there are several series of ceremonies performed by Hindus, especially in the Bali area.

On this day Hindus carry out “Catur Brata” Penyepian which consists of Amati Geni (not burning / not using and/or starting a fire), Amati Karya (not working), Amati Lelungan (not traveling), and Amati Lelanguan (not eating and drink). As well as for those who are able to also carry out asceticism, brata, yoga, and semadhi. On this day Hindus do not carry out their usual activities at all, the environment looks deserted, in fact it is like a dead city, no lights are on, everyone is quiet in their homes.

Thus, for the new era, really starting with a new page that is pure white. Even to start life in the new Śaka year, this basis is used, so that everything we do starts from being pure and clean.
