You must have worked with several hotels, what is unique about The Stones Hotel – Legian, Bali – A Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel?

For me, what make The Stones Hotel different are the culture, the people, the brand, and its architectural design. Whilst we are part of Marriott International family of hotels, the Autograph Brand is about individuality (as opposed to one-size-fits-all travel experiences), it recognizes traveler’s individual needs as such, we believe in “delivering above and beyond” to ensure guests will have a memorable stay.

Moreover, we have a unique team who bring their warm Balinese hospitality, adding to the Marriott core values of taking good care of our guests.

How do you cope with so many competitions in Bali these days? What is your hotel doing to stay competitive?

Focusing on value-added service that helps create memorable experiences and be proactive. Marriott’s core value is still as strong today as it was 92 years ago “take good care of your associates and they will take good care of your guests.” Our foundations are built on this philosophy.

What do you enjoy most about working in the hospitality industry?

Amazing talented people you get to work with and coping with constant challenges. There is never a dull moment… and the only thing constant is change, it changes daily, you never stop learning and growing. Our industry has changed dramatically over the last decade but the underlying principles of creating memorable experiences that leave life last imprints on our guests still exists. I enjoy it because it’s all about the people.

What attracted you to work in Bali?

The people and culture, the place… rich in tradition, and the challenges of an ever-growing, ever changing market

If you could pick one place anywhere in the world to be your dream destination, where would it be?

It’s 50-50 between the wonders of Africa and the adventure of dog sledding to see the northern lights. One of these we have achieved and the other is scheduled.

What’s your most memorable moment in your career?

There are many…. being rewarded for persistence with a global GM award, being part of a hotel opening team where you get to build a dream, but most of all,

Coaching, mentoring and growing local talent, seeing great people around you grow and develop their careers. Getting people to believe in themselves and their own ability, having them understand they are the makers of their own destiny and just believe in yourself.

What do you do for fun during your day off?

Spend time with family, I have two wonderful daughters, 6 and 4 who are a lot of fun to spend family time with, and exercising to stay fit.

What is your most favourite Indonesian food?

The Stones Nasi Goreng from our menu that features both lobster and wagyu beef skewer, and deep fried flying fish

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself still working with the Marriott family, taking up new leadership challenges and enjoy work life balance!
