INTERVIEW  DAYU SUSANI RESORT MANAGER  ALILA VILLAS ULUWATU

author : , published : 26 June 2024

Congratulations on your new role!
Tell us about your work and being the Resort Manager of Alila Villas Uluwatu
It has been such an exciting time for me to embark on something that is completely different from what I have been doing previously, Sales and Marketing. I am currently learning from the best in the industry. In my new role, I am overseeing the guest experience of the resort and how we can maintain the level of service for Alila Villas Uluwatu, while at the same time still overseeing Sales and Marketing for the time being. A lot of new perspectives and working together with leaders in the Operations side, very valuable lesson indeed.

You have worked in the industry for some time, what is your biggest achievement that you have accomplished and what do you think is the secret to your achievement?
One of the my biggest achievements was leading the pre-opening Sales and Marketing team of a prestigious and iconic hotel brand in Bali, during the hardest time (pandemic). There were a lot of tenacity and perseverance required and we can see the results in the coming years, it was a very rewarding feeling. I believe being tenacious and passionate is the key.

You started your career in sales, why did you choose to step out of it and who inspired you?
I like to learn new knowledge, am always eager to challenge my limits and would like to see the resort as a whole. To understand it in a three-sixty-degree view. I worked with some of the best leaders and General Managers in the past. Each one of them inspires me equally.

In your opinion, how does Alila Villas Uluwatu distinguish itself from other luxury resorts?
Alila Villas Uluwatu has always been a pioneer in luxury hospitality. Long before sustainability was a popular term, the resort was designed, planned, and built with sustainability in mind. Our curated journeys and moments are also distinguishing factors.

What trends do you foresee in the luxury hospitality sector?
The luxury hospitality sector is currently experiencing several significant trends driven by evolving customer preferences, technological advancements, and a heightened focus on sustainability, wellbeing, and culinary excellence. A shift towards more conscious, individualized, and experience-oriented luxury travel, where guests seek not just opulence but meaningful and enriching stays.

How do you maintain a work and life balance?
Simply spend time with my boys, they are 20yo and 10yo.  Fashion sketching and reading a good book are next in line. I am reading ‘Creativity, Inc.’ by Ed Catmull now.
