INTERVIEW WITH DIDIT INDRA PURNAWARMAN, GENERAL MANAGER OF BALI DYNASTY RESORT
Congratulations for your appointment in the new position, Mr. Didit! Please explain a bit of your background and how did you end up doing your career right now?
I started my career in the hospitality industry in 1990 as Reservation Officer in Bali Hyatt before moving to Sahid Hotel Jakarta. After that I worked at Intan Resorts, Holiday Inn Resort Lombok and several small properties in Indonesia. In 2001, I joined Bali Dynasty Resort as Executive Assistant Manager. I was promoted as the Resort Manager in 2014, and since March 2017 I hold the position as the General Manager. I have been with the company for over 16 years and I must say that I really enjoy my job and the responsibilities. Not many companies provide us the opportunity to learn and grow professionally and personally. I am grateful that I work for one.
As a General Manager, what would you do to make your property stands out among other competitors?
Each year we strive to make more and more improvements to ensure an enhanced experience for our guests while still offering the same great value for money. We continuously upgrade our facilities, with the recent upgrade being completed last month.
We take further steps by remodelling the popular Kids Club, freshened up the Kids Water Fun Zone and opened the new Family Suites that can contain up to 5 people. We also take the customers’ feedback seriously and ensure that all of our staff consistently delivers the genuine service, which has been the signature of our hotel.
Do you have a hobby that you love to do in your free time?
I enjoy gardening, landscaping and doing interior design at the weekend. Gardening helps me relax and release my stress, while landscaping and doing interior design allow me to explore my creativity.
Define your brand in three words
Make friends for life. Oh that’s four words!
What is your most favorite Balinese traditional food?
I like Ayam Betutu when it is not so spicy. I love the rich taste of the tender chicken meat seasoned in various herbs and spices. I also like “Rujak Gula” which is very refreshing. I am not a fan of spicy food though.
If you won a million dollar lottery, what would you do with the money?
Firstly, I would donate half of the money for charity to help the disadvantaged people via a trusted charity foundation. There are a lot of people in Bali who do not benefit from the island’s flourishing tourism sector.
Secondly, I will invest the money for my retirement and the future of my daughter.
Lastly, I would buy myself a Wrangler Rubicon Jeep, which has been in my wishlist for years.
If you could pick one holiday destination anywhere in the world, where would that be?
I’d love to go to Venice. I really like its intricate transport system of interconnected canals as well as the romantic and classic ambience the city exhibits. I’d love spend a romantic break in Venice with my wife. Our daughter can join but she must give us some mommy and daddy time. 🙂
Where would you want to see yourself in five years?
In five years, I see myself as one of the Directors in the company, taking in more responsibilities, developing more people and a good leader for anyone in my team.
How do you want to be remembered?
A visionary leader; I enjoy developing people and bringing out the best in them.
