INTERVIEW WITH HERNA LEE, GENERAL MANAGER OF MAXONE UBUD

As the General Manager of Maxone Ubud could you share some distinctive features of the property that makes your brand stand out from the others?
Maxone Ubud is a brand new hotel offering 66 rooms designed with a combination of modern architecture and pop art culture. The interior is rustic vintage and we play jazz music along the corridor. It is a popular choice among travelers in Ubud who are looking to explore or relax. We put Tegallang mural with rice field ambience in the pool area and all room corridors, we display a lot of monkey’s murals from Monkey Forest. Our Philosophy is Love Your Customers As You Love Yourself.

What is the most memorable achievement in your career at hospitality industry?
When I was in other property, it started with 78 rooms and a year later it became 144 rooms. At that time there was no direct competitor. Also I got the Best Sales award, the Largest Service Charge in the category of all hotel budgets by Hotel Management.

How would you define ‘leadership’ and what do you think is the most important quality to have to be one?
Leader is critical to every company, as workers need someone to look up to, learn from and thrive with.

That is why I do only 4 ways:
1. A leader is better than their environment
-Leaders are coaches with a passion for developing people, not players
2. A leader knows their team well.
-A leader places the people around him or her in a position that sets them up for
success.
3. A leader maintains a positive attitude
– Can hold his or her emotions in check, especially in tough situations.
4. We build the next generation of leader.

If you could pick one place anywhere in the world to be your dream destination, where would it be? 

Jerusalem

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity (explain a bit the reason why)?
I’ve been blessed with generally good level of fitness, probably due to walking my dog several times a day and always engage in game activities.

What do you do for fun during your day off?
Stay at home, cooking (I love cooking ), reading, movie marathon .

What book has influenced you the most?
I don’t have it but I like Detective Novel by Agatha Cristhie and Arthur Conan

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Well, being an entrepreneur also a successful mother for my little family. Amin 🙂
