INTERVIEW WITH DESY SETIAWATI DIRECTOR OF SALES AND MARKETING MANDAPA, A RITZ-CARLTON RESERVE
How do you feel to be new Director of Sales and Marketing of Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve?
I do feel very proud to lead the team of one of the rare collection properties from Ritz-Carlton Reserve Brand and as the only Reserve property in Indonesia, it set our positioning as a selected team member among thousands of people in the industry. We set our bar high and build the same mindset and mentality to reach our goals.
With experience working in several luxury resorts, what do you think is special about Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve?
The philosophy behind the brand, set apart by the human connection…
It is the roots of the hospitality industry, personalized touch, genuine interest in our guests and associates as individuals, building connection and relationships – that`s about Reserve where we always look for ways to enchant our guests daily with heartfelt and thoughtful gestures that take their breath away.
You’ve won several recognitions during your career, what do you think is the secret to your achievement ?
Focus toward your goal regardless of the challenges that you are facing in – in between and always become someone who`s always curious to know and learn new things.
My favourite motto in life: There`s always a rainbow after the rain ☺
Put trust in your team since they are your support system, open to receiving any feedback for better improvement, make a great communication flow and recognition is a must.
When you’re at work, what puts a smile on your face?
A small touch like genuine attention from the other team member, one of examples when I feel a bit unwell – someone could put a Vitamin C on my table with special notes: “Please have a rest Ibu, don’t work too hard – I hope this little vitamin can boost your energy ☺ “

What are the most challenging issues you are facing on your current job?
How fragile the hospitality industry is.
We can see from the Covid effect that affected the entire hospitality business aspects and how the recovery will take time. So we always need to be ready to adapt to any situation that affected the business circumstances.
From the world issues, political situations, and highlights from each country, so many things are involved and we need to keep updated with all of the information.
Can you share tips for women who would like to follow the same career path?
First of all, as a woman, you need to be in a supportive environment to support your dreams and understand your vision (family, partners, friends).
Second, you need to really focus on your goal and put a target of when you will vision yourself to reach it.
Third, build a “don’t care” character in yourself – for me, it really helps when you’re facing challenges and people underestimate your capability and skill.
Most importantly, always ask for blessings from your parents and your God based on your beliefs.
What do you do for fun during your day off?
I am a true Sagittarian, so I can`t stay at home for a long time.
Travelling is a must to explore a new place, meet friends, and try new spots and places to eat.
Doing fun activities with my children, there are three boys – so you can imagine ☺
