INTERVIEW WITH VINCENT GUIRONNET, GENERAL MANAGER THE APURVA KEMPINSKI BALI

author : , published : 16 March 2022

Could you please tell us about the new campaign ‘Unity of Diversity”

From the onset of The Apurva Kempinski Bali, we have placed Indonesian cultural heritage as the foundation of our activities. This year, we are taking the nation’s belief of “Bhineka Tunggal Ika”, or Unity in Diversity, into a year round celebration showcasing the intricateness of the country’s historical multicultural facets.

This movement captures the stories of the largest islands of Indonesia – Sumatra, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. Their culture and tradition are presented throughout the entire guest experiences – from culinary diversity and holistic treatments, to traditional family games and craftsmanship exhibitions. We are also doing various collaborations with highly-acclaimed artisans, and have planned special events throughout the year. All of these are prepared in distinctive bimonthly programmes, embracing the archipelago’s rich diversity.

In this new campaign, you collaborate with several high-profile designers. Will there be a fashion show with them in the near future?

We are always open to exploring what kind of guest experiences we can present with the talented designers. This movement provides a platform to showcase the meticulous craftsmanship of Indonesian designers and strengthen our commitment to support what Indonesia is best known for.

Koral Restaurant has been very successful and is considered one of the must-visit restaurants in Bali since it opened. How do you feel about that and any new update from Koral?

Koral Restaurant definitely gives a one of a kind dining experience in Bali. Chef Andrea Astone and the talented team at Koral Restaurant have been working hard to find new ways to introduce guests to a unique culinary journey. During the Unity in Diversity campaign, they are taking the traditional dishes from each of the islands, and reimagining them to fit Koral’s gastronomic style.

What is the most challenging thing in your current position you have experienced so far?

This year, it is crucial for us to give each of the islands the proper representation at the resort, in order for the guests to truly understand the depth of Indonesian culture and traditions. There are many aspects in this and we have been paying attention to the smallest details, so we can represent these traditions accurately.

Share with us the most memorable moment that has ever happened during your career

The best experiences are when your guests and business partners become long-term friends. It is great to maintain relationships, and it is something that I cherish.

Having several F&B outlets in your resort, what is one favourite food/dish that you can recommend to us?

The Unity in Diversity campaign will give you the opportunity to sample the traditional flavours of different regions in Indonesia, and I highly recommend you to explore the Indonesian selection at our dining outlets.
