KOH TAO & KOH NANGYUAN

On the central gulf coast of Southern Thailand, lays a cluster of isle that has been a favorable getaway destination for international tourist. On that area, Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao are two small islands that has gain worldwide attention for its rugged natural beauty, a place to watch a mesmerizing sunset beyond the coastal blue, or dip down beneath the clear water.

In term of ‘holiday destination’, Thailand never fell short. Its vast archipelago held many secluded islands which provide just the right atmosphere to have a wonderful tropical vacation. On my current trip to the country, I seek for a pleasant holiday where I can soak myself under the warm sun with feet buried in soft white sand, and later, plunge myself deep into the ocean, so I put two names in my travel itinerary; Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao.

It is not a coincidence that those two islands are neighboring each other. I decided Koh Tao to be my first stop. This island has long been associated with diving activity, but since they continue to develop into prime tourism site, there are much more to do on land as well. Immediately upon my arrival, I did the biggest attraction of Koh Tao island; Scuba Diving. One of the reason is the area around the island’s offshore offers easy access to do the activity, and mostly safe even for beginner divers. I didn’t have to explore too far to find sharks and rays lurking around a playground of tangled neon coral. Then as the noon pass, it’s time for a pleasant sundowner session, I enjoyed myself sitting in a beach club, with a refreshing cocktail in my hand, watching the sun turns the sky in fiery hue as dawn approach and night began to fall.

My previous scuba diving session at Koh Tao leave me craving for more, so the next day I took myself to its neighboring island; Koh Nangyuan, to relish the same wonderful experience from different point of view.

Koh Tao is considered as the smallest island in the gulf of Thailand, but Koh Nangyuan is even smaller. To reach the island, I sail with a traditional longboat service. The only way to get around this island is by walking, as it is so tiny it would be pointless to bring any vehicle. I didn’t waste much time and put my swimsuits on once I am allowed to do so. The snorkeling sites in Koh Nangyuan are easy to reach, and it’s a pleasant fact. I had a definite good time observing the beauty of the island’s colorful underwater marine life from the surface of clear sea water.
