UNI RESTAURANT & BAR PRESENTS NEW A LA CARTE MENU
Change is afoot at Uni Restaurant & Bar. Having already cemented its status as one of Bali’s most innovative offerings, the Berawa eatery’s owner and chef Steven Skelly has announced a series of changes ahead for the beloved local eatery. Steven is no stranger to the demands of the burgeoning Balinese food scene, having spent years in the role of Executive Chef with the Mexicola Group. Sensing a change in local dining habits, he has introduced, alongside the existing five-course set menu, a new a la carte menu.
Open from Thursday through Saturday, Uni will maintain its reputation as a contemporary seafood restaurant, but will increasingly weave in inspiration from a global palate of flavours in this rotating menu, a collection of casual plates will change weekly. There will of course be a few mainstays, the dishes already beloved by locals, like prawns served in brioche roll, and raw scallops served in fermented raw pumpkin juice. Dishes will be served alongside the same creative cocktails and an impressive array of natural wines.
“Our approach has changed,” explains Steven. “It’s simpler, tastier food. Picture a lot less fuss and more focus on making sure it tastes really good. Times have changed, and so have tastes. There is no longer really a need for a special occasion restaurant. People are looking for an excuse to get out for a drink and a bite to eat, somewhere more casual that you can eat more frequently. Our a la carte menu is now food that you can eat everyday.”
It’s not just the fare which has embraced change. The interiors have been revamped, with the works from a cluster of world-renowned street artists, like Yaz, lining the walls. These will be available to purchase on commission and rotate regularly. Not to mention a new musical component. DJs will take up residence weekly – Pantai People will take to the decks every Saturday night, and play right through to the early hours of the morning. Every fortnight on a Friday eve there will be Kitchen Sessions, with DJ Kaiser Waldon to set up his decks in the kitchen.
