W Bali – Seminyak, together with Lombok-based circular art and homeware design company, Plastik Kembali, presents “Reimagining Plastic Waste: LAND | SEA | SKY”, an exhibition, featuring recycled plastic waste with applied artistic innovation and creativity.

Open for all, the exhibition takes place from Friday, 17 March 2023 until Sunday, 30 April 2023, at Starfish Bloo, W Bali – Seminyak. There will be a big market day during the exhibition on 15 – 16 April 2023 where guests can purchase sustainable handmade crafts including recycled art, tableware, and many more interesting items that Plastik Kembali has to offer.Land | Sea | Sky is a circular art + design exhibit by Plastik Kembali and W Bali – Seminyak that explores the impact of single-use plastic on natural spaces in our shared world while reimagining the value of plastic waste.

Through fiber art, rattan weaving, molded sculpture and more – all created with recycled and natural materials by local artisans from Lombok, Indonesia – the exhibit illustrates how we can connect with one another to rethink waste recycling between islands, through different cultures and, of course, across land, sea and sky.

The artwork produced by Plastik Kembali brings this concept to life in a revolutionary way: by addressing one of Indonesia’s most significant challenges — plastic waste — and transforming it through one of Indonesia’s greatest strengths: traditional arts and crafts. For example, Plastik Kembali’s artwork is created with hand-twisted recycled rope, recycled plastic forms are enhanced with local rattan weaving and textile weavings are hand-woven by women on traditional Lombok looms.

By exploring the possibilities of working with recycled plastic, the artisans at Plastik Kembali helped us realize plastic “waste” is a resource loaded with creative potential. Then, by reimagining crafts passed down through generations, they sparked a new kind of connection to the very heart of Indonesian culture. While plastic waste remains a challenge across Indonesia, Plastik Kembali shines a light on the possibilities when we all return to the soul of the archipelago: a creative life rooted in the love of nature; a community that nurtures connection and peace; one family living in harmony and hopes for a sustainable future.

Commenting on the collaboration, Titus Rosier, General Manager of W Bali – Seminyak says, “I am so excited and very much looking forward to this collaboration with Plastik Kembali by presenting a unique art exhibition that is made from plastic waste. This initiative is also in line with our continued focus on sustainability initiatives to reduce single-use plastic.” “I hope with this collaboration we can support the local community to spotlight their skills and most importantly, reduce plastic waste by turning them into something useful,” he added.
